Easy and simple Cookie Consent solution

Cookiejar is especially aimed at businesses with smaller websites, where cookie consent solution subscriptions of up to €30 per month (or more) can seem like an unnecessary expense. Therefore, I have developed a simple and lightweight solution that is activated with a small script in the header, without adding extra garbage or load in the WordPress admin. Cookiejar can be used on all websites regardless of CMS. This means that Cookiejar can be used by everyone, not just WordPress websites.

Alternative to the big Cookie Consent providers

I have set up a number of websites with either a Cookie Information or Cookiebot solution. I recommend these solutions if you have the budget for it. They are both super nice tools. Easy to set up and without a doubt the obvious choice if you have the budget for it. They have their act together and offer plenty of features - often more than most people will ever need.

Can Cookiejar do the same as Cookiebot or Cookieinformation? No, it can't. But is it a useful and helpful cookie management tool for most small businesses? Yes, definitely. Cookiejar is the cheaper alternative where you can also provide input on both features and design.

How Cookiejar works

Easy to install: Add the script to your site and you have a working cookie consent popup.

Automatic script management: When a visitor accepts or declines a category (e.g. statistics or marketing), the relevant scripts are automatically enabled or disabled.

Reopen button: Users can always change their cookie settings via a clear button on the site.

Customised categories: You need to define which categories your scripts belong to, and Cookiejar handles the rest in terms of script activation or blocking.

You don't get this with Cookiejar like you might with the big ones

No log is currently saved: Cookiejar does not store detailed logs about users

Text customisation: Cookiejar comes with ready-made default texts and descriptions for cookies and categories, but they cannot be changed or rewritten.

Automatic cookie scanning: Cookiejar does not automatically scan the site continuously for new or existing cookies - this feature is typically available with larger solutions like Cookiebot or Cookieinformation. However, it's a feature that I'm considering developing. Right now it only works with the categories you define, such as statistics or marketing.

The licence covers the use of Cookiejar on one website, including all updates and new features that are continuously added. Simple and transparent pricing - no hidden fees or monthly subscriptions. Ideal solution for small and medium-sized websites that want a lightweight cookie consent solution without extra complexity.

Planned updates for Cookiejar

Cookiejar will continuously add new features and updates. Here are some of the upcoming ones:

English language function: The cookie popup automatically displays texts in English if the user's browser language is not Danish.

Statistics log: Simple overview of acceptance/rejection numbers.

Users can provide feedback and input that is continuously used to develop both new features and improve the design.

Considerations:

Automatic cookie scanner: Scanner that continuously scans the site for cookies that can be added to the different categories. I have mixed feelings about the function, as it is of course super smart that the site is scanned automatically. On the other hand, it gives less control, as you need to know which scripts are setting cookies on your website. If there are enough user requests around it, it's something I'll do.

Setup is simple

1. Add to the list Cookiejar-script for your site.
2. Mark the scripts to be controlled by consent with data-consent attribute (There are these two options: statistics or marketing).
3. Cookiejar takes care of blocking or enabling these scripts depending on the visitor's choice.

It's quick and easy and I will guide you in the best possible way. However, you are solely responsible for correct setup and compliance. Cookiejar is a GDPR-friendly cookie tool at a great price that can help you comply with cookie regulations, but does not replace legal liability.
